Gerben Markink

Gerben is an experienced specialist in VAT and real estate transfer tax, both domestic and cross-border. Real estate is the core of his practice: he advises investors, developers and institutional owners on acquisitions, development and transformation, restructurings and exit. Alongside that, he works on international supply chains, VAT group structuring and the VAT optimisation of ERP systems, and advises clients in private equity, financial services and the not-for-profit sector.

Knowledge-driven by nature, he combines a broad tax background with a habit of going back to first principles. That allows him to identify what actually matters in complex situations and, where the standard route falls short, to develop a creative alternative that still holds up. His work often extends into data analysis and VAT scans, so that advice translates into something clients can genuinely apply in their own operations. Fluent in German, he has a particular focus on the DACH region and regularly advises German, Austrian and Swiss clients on their VAT-position.

Gerben is a core lecturer at the Amsterdam School of Real Estate and an author for a Wolters Kluwer real estate publication. Teaching and writing sharpen his thinking, and he brings the same approach to his work with clients and colleagues: sharing expertise in a way that others can put to use.
